Excellent essay Livia, you have captured the Spain I know and love. But don't forget that Spain had a terrible civil war in the 20th Century, and still has the scars of fascist rule. Were it not for their generosity of spirit, they might never have recovered. Meanwhile back in the Land of Free we have none of this recovery potential.
