FROM DEEP SEA TO DEEP POCKETS DISASTER: The Titanic Claims More Lives and Livelihoods
This is really just a blurb and not my usual missive. But I am puzzled to no end about this whole episode, and I could use some help (haters excluded please).
After all the waiting, the news so many feared most is now upon us. What a tragedy, especially for the family of the father and son passengers. My late brother flew small planes (but not very well) when he could afford it (which wasn’t often), and my mother did not want to know about it, whenever all her eggs were in a rickety basket (semi-restored scout plane from the Korean War) and flying around the jet invested skies of Southern California.
Aside from this reckless behavior (plus, driving on the freeways), I have never done Extreme Adventure Tourism (and not just because I cannot afford it). I think, nonetheless, that I at least get it. The allure of the great ship still escapes me, however. I could see hunting for Spanish treasure ships, but why the Titanic? What can one see that they didn’t see already, along with the deeply erotic illusion of a naked Kate Winslet? Perhaps some readers can spell it out for me.
Meanwhile back at the bottom of the Ocean, I am still wondering. Did no one check out the records and equipment ratings of this dive operator? Was the Titanic so compelling that these matters, mattered little? Aside from signing the liability documents, did anyone imagine that the probability of death might be approximately a sure thing.
