Great commentary Mike as usual. Old success stories? Success has been converted into a cruel joke by the likes of George Santos. Not only is Greed Good, but Grift is Good. In a recent NPR episode ( https://www.npr.org/2023/01/30/1152508113/george-santos-and-the-great-american-tradition-of-self-making?utm_) we are told that Representative Santos (a self-made sack of shit), is somehow a tribute to a “Great American Tradition of the Self-Made Man”. In this case, Dr. Burton (Ph.D. in French Literature) is both a self-made (as in without recognizable credentials or even experience) societal psychiatrist and source of a self-made definition for self-made (i.e., granting power to the magic of the imagination). She states that Santos is like Trump in this regard. Except Trump, who started off with a 6-million-dollar gift from his Klan Member Dad, is also not what the real American Tradition of Self Made is about. Nor is Trump a successful businessman, albeit pretty good at the GRIFT and escaping jail by running for office. However, she might be correct if “self-made” is merely a license for lying. As Mitt Romney pointed out when calling for Santos to be removed from office, “embellishment is when one lies about getting an A when you only got an A minus, and not when they claim to have degrees from universities you never attended”.
