However, we are a nation run by private bankers and associated wankers. And, our all-wank-all-the-time macro-economy is predicated upon unlimited growth. PS: Your example of industrial/war planning reminds me of Jimmy Carter's evocation of "the moral equivalent of war", which along with the GOP's "Oct Surprise" (keeping the hostages in Iran) cost him re-election.
