Great discussion Mike. Do you think the stupidity and our widespread acceptance was airborne (kidding)? I wish I could pinpoint the exact time when we became so recalcitrant in defense of our ignorance. Something very curious took hold of our culture all of a sudden. Accepting that everyone is entitled to their opinions does not mean they are equally valid or will stand up to foundational research. But even great science is ridiculed amid self imposed and reinforced stupidity. As for the deep sea tragedy I am still waiting for someone to explain the institutional hubris involved.
