We had a republic designed to both support and control oligarchy, and we lost control. We are now a neofeudal society trying to reign in our neorentier and financial overlords with the the rule of law (such as it is) and a small handful of democratic (but easily distorted by wealth) like processes. Meanwhile, we have a large segment of the population fueled by hate, fear, and racial mythology seeking to destroy those processes, while doing nothing to actually control the oligarchs. We already have a civil war with the possibility of serious blood shed, but it can get much worse than that, it could be FULL FRONTAL FASCISM! And we have one particular politician/cult leader devoted to that outcome, and threatening further violence if we don't allow it. EXCITING TIMES, eh?
