Great Essay Jeff. But liberals don't have a decent long game. They don't have a Federalist Society or a Powell Manifesto. Up until recently when the they allowed the GOP to become the Gestapo Operatives Party, conservatives were very very patient in taking over the judiciary as they had the state governments (Gerrymandering and voter suppression). Meanwhile, liberals were happy with their republican lite party and really don't have Kraken to release. Even when they had a SCOTUS seat to fill, they let the Republicans bully them into giving it up. Plus, I am not so sure that releasing are own monster is a great analogy for our times. Recall that Hitler said, that the brilliance of the totalitarian state is that those who oppose it are forced to imitate it.
