I agreed that Dr. DeLong has written a great epic. But this review does not do justice to its his fullest implications. His major point of all this history (which most economists totally ignore) is that the PARTY IS NOW OVER, and our path to individual prosperity has produced collective destruction. Furthermore, economics as a pseudo-science has been ahistorical for a reason, GROWTH AT ANY COST is central. It is also interesting to observe that leading graduate schools of economics, including UC Berkeley, do not require a course in economic history or even macroeconomics for that matter.
