Interesting discussion, but this is the mother of all "pie in the sky" fairy tales. Even in fiction, humans cannot survive on Mars without huge fleets of resources being shipped daily (at astronomical energy costs). Human life spans (not to mention low radiation tolerance) rule out interstellar travel. We are too damn fragile. But the real issue is that the whole enterprise robs vital funds from increasing the habitability of this planet. The only one we have, and yet are vigorously pissing away. This is proof positive that the naked ape is like other primates who shits theirs nests and then seeks a new frontier.
