Interesting essay Mathew. But these discussion are nearly extinct now. Why would students bother to discuss things with their professors when they can sit back and release the trolls to get you punished for challenging the students unfounded opinions. Plus, any really lively debate would need to be preceded by elaborate TRIGGER WARNINGS. With the catch 22 that merely issuing a warning, will get you in the dog house. I am not sure what universities are for anymore, aside from improving one's earning potential. Universities used to be places where students were introduced to the great controversies in their fields in order to appreciate the processes of creating alternatives___ information workshops as it were. But those days as long gone.
