Several scholars have warned us the end stage of capitalism is full frontal fascism. We have had "inverted totalitarianism" for decades. We will soon have it in the hallmark form (via Hannah Arendt), with indiscriminate terrorism as a basic domestic policy. My only hope is that when individuals experience face their Winston moment, that enough refuse to rat (literally and figuratively) out their friends.
